Got a letter from the customs office about a parcel from Ireland. Reading it carefully before I do anything.

Customs handling fees are charged by the carrier, not the state, which is why they are so hard to contest.

What changed my experience was splitting orders rather than ordering larger and less often.

A written confirmation email after every phone call is the cheapest insurance there is.

Interested in the boring correct answer.

Written confirmation email after every phone call. Cheapest insurance there is. Same for me with a fee on the statement, unfortunately.

“Dispatched” means the label was printed. That is the entire meaning of the word.

Do you contact the customs office or the carrier first?

Photograph everything. Currently on a fee on the statement myself.

Fees like that are charged by the carrier, not the state, which is why they are hard to contest.
