Insurance question, and the plan document contradicts what the counter told me.

Bring one guideline reference, not a folder. Nobody reads a folder.

The phone log is the part people skip. Date, time, name, what was said, reference number.

Copay cards rarely cover the deductible, and whether they count toward the out-of-pocket maximum is plan specific.

Function beats pain scores in these conversations. “I cannot sit for twenty minutes” lands.

What worked for you, concretely?

Small wins count. Walking to the mailbox is a data point. Four months in on a second opinion and it lines up.

Enteric coatings should not be crushed. The pellets are the delivery mechanism.

Ten percent cuts. Slower is faster.

Ten percent cuts. Slower is faster. Same for me with a second opinion, unfortunately.

Same here.

How long have you been on a second opinion?

It gets smaller. Not easy, smaller. That distinction kept me going.

Same shape here, different drug. The thing that helped was documenting the refusal rather than re-arguing it. They refer rather than write.

Changing prescriber does not reset anything, and people discover that the hard way.

Sorry for the basic question, but how do you actually start one of these diaries?

Small wins count. Walking to the mailbox is a data point. Tolerance was my main issue with a second opinion too.

Bring a list. Embarrassment makes everyone forget things, including you.

Fifteen years of this and the function column is the only one that changed anything for me. Also, one page of history, printed, handed over at the start. It changes the appointment. Currently on a second opinion myself.
